Fashion is everywhere, it is on billboards, in magazines and on TV. It is easy to be inspired by all of the beautiful images we see everywhere. I find I am really inspired by fashion when it comes to my boudoir work. I love the mixture of elegance, sensuality and style. All of these qualities are what I strive for in my work.
One of my favorite photographer’s of all time is Helmut Newton (especially when it comes to mixing boudoir and fashion). He was brilliant at creating images that were not only “sexy” but were still intellectually stimulating. The women in his photographs appeared to be just there for visual stimulation, but when you look more closely you see that they are always in control. This is his main influence on my work.
I have always said I love walking the line between vulnerability and control. Many of us women walk this line every day! I think fashion is a prime example of this and boudoir is our chance to show these qualities in ourselves. It is not about the clothes we wear (or lack of clothing we wear) it is about the empowerment of women and showing that we can be in control of our own lives while free to express our vulnerable and sensual sides. All of which makes us the women we are.
